Our Youth Archers

The International Field Archery Association (IFAA) provides dedicated youth categories to ensure young archers can compete in field archery within age-appropriate and clearly defined divisions. These classifications help promote fair competition and provide a structured pathway for developing archers at international events.

Youth Age Categories

At major IFAA competitions, including the World Field Archery Championships, youth divisions are generally determined by the competitor’s age on the first day of the event:

  • Cubs: Archers aged 12 and under.
  • Juniors: Archers aged 13–16.
  • Young Adults: Archers aged 17–20.

Our Adult Archers

The International Archery Federation (IFAA) adult division includes participants aged 21 to 54 years old on the first day of competition.

  • Age Range: 21–54 years (archers 65 and older may also choose to compete in senior, veteran, or adult divisions depending on preference).
  • Professional vs. Amateur:
    • Amateur Adults: Open to all registered members of an IFAA Member Association across all recognized bow styles (Barebow, Freestyle, Bowhunter, Longbow, Historical, and Traditional).
    • Professional Adults: Recognized strictly in three specific shooting styles: Freestyle Unlimited, Freestyle Compound Limited, and Freestyle Recurve Limited for active competitors in the professional circuit.
