NASP® Scholarships

NASP® Scholarship Opportunities

Each year, the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®) provides thousands of dollars in cash scholarships to student archers. These awards are designed to recognize excellence in competition and participation, and the funds can be applied toward any post-secondary education or training program after graduation.

NASP® has been implemented across BVI schools—both public and private—such as Cedar International, VI School of Technical Studies, BVI SDA School, Ciboney School of Excellence, Bregado Flax Centre, and others. This broad adoption helps extend opportunities and access to competitive archery and scholarship funding.

At VI NASP® Nationals, students compete not just for medals but also for meaningful cash scholarships:

  • In 2022, over $12,200 in scholarships were awarded, with prize bows, trophies, plaques, and medallions distributed. Top girls and boys received between $2,160 and $465, depending on placement.

  • Since its inception, the program has distributed over $70,000 in scholarship monies across multiple Nationals.

  • In 2019, the Top School team (VI Technical School) had each member awarded $150, from a $10,000 scholarship pool.

Local sponsors are vital—including Kobre & Kim (BVI) LP, Caribbean Security, and Unite BVI—as well as logistical support from ferry provider Speedy’s, ensuring wide participation across the islands.

Why It Matters

  • VI NASP® scholarships help encourage continued education through tangible financial support.

  • These programs also foster community and inter-school competition, while building skills and confidence.

  • Sponsorship ensures that archers can work towards earning funds to build their own future.

Individual Shoot-Off Scholarships

How to Qualify

  • Archers must compete in the  VI NASP National Tournament.

  • The Top 5 male and Top 5 female archers (including ties) from these combined scores qualify to shoot in the Shoot-Off.

How the Shoot-Off Works

  • The shoot-off is held just before the Championship awards ceremony.

  • Format:

    • Each archer shoots one 5-arrow practice round at 15 meters.

    • Each archer then shoots one 5-arrow scoring round at 15 meters.

  • Scholarships are awarded based on final ranking in the shoot-off.

  • If a Tie occurs, a 1-arrow shootoff is done to determine who will take the higher place.

Key Points for Students & Parents

  • Scholarships are cash awards and can be applied toward college, university, or trade/technical training programs.

  • No separate application is required — students qualify by competing and earning top results, or simply by participating.

  • Awarded funds are reserved for students until they graduate and enroll in post-secondary education.

This structure makes NASP® scholarships one of the most accessible opportunities for student-athletes, rewarding both performance and participation.
