The Virgin Islands Field Archery Federation (VIFAF) recently partnered with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) to introduce young campers to the exciting sport of archery during the college’s 5th Annual Summer Camp, held under the theme “Each One, Teach One.”
On July 8, 2026, just one week into the camp for children ages 9 to 15, VIFAF conducted an introductory archery session for 49 enthusiastic campers. Official coach Ritseeniyah Georges-Buxo, assisted by a dedicated team of volunteers, guided participants through the fundamentals of the sport, many of whom were experiencing archery for the very first time.
Throughout the session, campers learned the basics of safe and successful shooting, including proper equipment handling, shooting technique, range safety, and the importance of following safety procedures. VIFAF supplied all the necessary equipment, including recurve bows, Genesis bows, left- and right-eye dominant bows, arrows, target faces, 3D targets, and traditional bullseye targets.
Coach Georges-Buxo, who also serves as the Virgin Islands Coordinator for the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), expressed her delight at the campers’ enthusiasm and willingness to learn. She was especially encouraged that many participants had already been introduced to archery through previous summer camps or through the NASP programme at their schools, demonstrating the sport’s growing presence across the Virgin Islands.
Speaking on the importance of the collaboration, VIFAF President Reuben Stoby emphasized the federation’s commitment to community engagement.
“Partnerships are very important to the federation, as community involvement is high on our agenda. We welcome every opportunity to share the love of archery with children,” Stoby said.
The Virgin Islands Field Archery Federation remains committed to expanding access to the sport and looks forward to future collaborations with HLSCC and other organizations interested in promoting archery throughout the Virgin Islands.
