About the International Field Archery Association (IFAA)

The International Field Archery Association (IFAA) is the worldwide governing body for field archery, founded in 1970 by archers from the USA, UK, Sweden, and Canada who adopted a unified set of tournament rules IFAA Archery. Today, IFAA connects over 45 member countries and represents more than 50,000 field archers across the globe IFAA Archery.

IFAA is responsible for setting competition standards, equipment classifications, shooting styles, and safety protocols. Its major international events include the World Field Archery Championships (WFAC) and the World Indoor Archery Championships, allowing athletes from all levels to compete under internationally recognized rules.

Collaboration with World Archery

IFAA works in collaboration with World Archery (formerly FITA)—the international federation recognized by the Olympic movement—to advance and unify efforts in promoting archery worldwide. Their formal agreement outlines:

  • Mutual recognition as independent sport organizations

  • Cooperation on standardized equipment rules and safety guidelines

  • Joint advocacy on travel rights and the legal status of archery gear

  • Shared field events, such as during the World Masters Games in Sydney
